Why do people volunteer? When was the last time you volunteered? Who asked you? Why did you volunteer? What answers did you give?

Now consider: When was the last time you asked someone to volunteer? What was the job? Why did you ask that particular person?

Volunteers are the mainstay of any parish. Volunteerism has both a strong biblical and historical basis in the church. Perhaps it can be said that the church is at its best when there is a strong volunteerism spirit, where people serve without thought of personal reward.

Individuals volunteer for a number of reasons. Among the most common reasons are:

1. Achievement
2. Challenge
3. Creativity
4. Independence
5. Leadership
6. Recognition
7. Self-Expression
8. Service
9. Socialization
